Abstract

In seismic reservoir characterization, geophysicists usually derive seismic attributes as interim products to estimate reservoir properties from observed seismic data. Although many types of seismic attributes are currently available in practice, such as velocity, impedance, reflectivity, and AVO coefficients, quantitative guidelines on which attributes should be used in particular conditions have not been well established yet. This is because the relations between rock properties and seismic attributes are nonlinear as well as locally variable.
