Abstract

The basin of Central Carpathian Palaeogene in Eastern Slovakia spreads over 2,500 km² area comprising of about 4,100 km³ volume of filling. This filling of Eocene to Lower Miocene age contains transitory to marine, clastic sedimentary rocks. Carbonates occur only at the Eocene base in the north. Basement to Palaeogene is represented by Mesozoic, mostly carbonate rocks creating pronounced morphologic elevations. This Mesozoic participates on nappe structures of the Central Carpathians. Deformations in Eocene to Lower Miocene time produced folds, thrusts and low angle folds. In final stage the complex is affected by subsequent Neogene tectonics completing it to present shapes.
