Abstract

Summary

Almost all major oil fields are now becoming mature, which can be a major cause of imbalance economy of the world. Moreover the further exploration of the economically viable field and redevelopment of mature field using conventional technique need capital investment. Thus to compensate the chances of fluctuating oil price and to reduce the capital investment, companies have been focusing on further or redevelopment of mature fields. It is aimed to drill maximum possible horizontal wells which are completed in depleted reservoirs and open hole in low pressure. To redevelop the mature field it is needed to work with nondamaging, and low density drill in fluid (LDDIF). LDDIF can be best suited in reservoirs having low pressure and depleted reservoirs without causing any damage to existing reservoir formation. Study was carried out after installing these DIFs in depleted reservoirs and low pressure reservoirs and their impact on formation damage along with cleanup performance in horizontal well, unconsolidated sand completions. Several laboratory work have been also carried out and eventually it is found that in subhydrostatic wells use of LDDIFs is more economically and environmentally viable in comparison to conventional.
