Abstract
Summary
This paper studies the frequency-dependent reflections due to CO2 patchy saturation with White’s model. Parameters from the Utsira formation are used to perform a numerical study. The results show that the radii of gas pocket and outer sphere have an effect in the frequency band in which velocity dispersion and attenuation occur. Frequency-dependence of reflection coefficients in the seismic band are obvious with appropriate values of the two radii of the fluid- saturated concentric sphere. A numerical modeling is also performed to study the feasibility of inverting the radius of outer sphere and CO2 saturation from the frequency-dependent reflection amplitudes with a simulated annealing algorithm.
