Abstract
In this study, we evaluate the effect of lithology on porosity/effective-stress functions for selected wells in the Rovuma Basin, offshore Mozambique. The resulting well-log data are then compared with the laboratory functions developed by Mondol et al. (2008) to evaluate the main controls on porosity in the Rovuma Basin.
The analysis of the Cachalote-1 well data shows clear and distinct trends on the porosity versus vertical effective stress plot, as expected from previous work. Shale-dominated lithologies show the most clear trends, while limestone lithologies show only weak trends.
This preliminary analysis seems to be fairly representative of the porosity versus vertical effective stress functions in the Rovuma Basin. Further work is focused on understanding porosity versus vertical effective stress for more complex wells in RB offshore Mozambique.
