Abstract
This paper aims to provide a hybrid method that absorb both good qualities of the integral equation method (IEM) and edge-based finite element method (vector FEM) to solve scattering fields for controlled source electromagnetic method (CSEM). The hybrid method is the combination of IEM and vector FEM. By the hybrid scheme, on the one hand, the computational domain is bounded to the inhomogeneous body plus a surrounding layer. On the other hand, for the IEM in the hybrid method, the singularity problem is solved by possessing the observation points outside of the inhomogeneous body. Moreover, the IEM in the hybrid method modifies the pulse basic function to a divergence-free basic function, which is based on the edge shape function of the vector FEM. To verify the accuracy of the hybrid method, a synthetic model has designed. The numerical modelling results by the hybrid method have compared with solution of FEM over different frequencies. The numerical experiments demonstrate that the hybrid method provides accurate numerical solutions for three-dimensional (3D) CSEM modelling.
