Abstract
Geological constrains quite often compel to drill wells with reduced center-to-center distance. Managing well to well collision risk is a complex challenge when the potential collision zone is located in the horizontal section of the well, with uncertainties in the range of +/- 20 m. Reservoir mapping technology was intended to be used as unconventional method to reduce the risk of collision to an acceptable level. This paper describes the non-traditional utilization of reservoir mapping while drilling technology. It would be of benefit when planning horizontal wells in close proximity, especially ones above/below one another as demonstrated in our case study. Case study is presenting the drilling horizontal well in 15 m center-to-center distance from completed horizontal well minimizing risks of collision and vertical uncertainty.
