Abstract

H012 RESOLUTION ANALYSIS OF 3-D NONLINEAR MAGNETOTELLURIC INVERSION Summary The paper presents a new method for resolution analysis of 3-D nonlinear magnetotelluric inversion. It is based on evaluating the spatial distribution of the upper bounds of the inverse model errors. We introduce a new characteristic of magnetotelluric (MT) inversion a resolution density as an inverse of these upper bounds. We derive an efficient numerical technique to compute the resolution density based on the Spectral Lanzcos Decomposition Method (SLDM). The methodology is tested on a 3-D synthetic MT data inversion for earth conductivity structure. The case study includes interpretation of the
