P202 Three-Dimensional Magnetotelluric Modeling Including Surface Topography ABSTRACT 1 This paper presents a numerical algorithm to compute magnetotelluric responses to three-dimensional earth topography. The geometric flexibility offered by finite-element methods (FEM) makes them an attractive candidate for modeling complex geology. We formulate FEM using a single vector shape function at each edge. The edge FEM guarantees the continuity of the tangential electric field conserving the continuity of a magnetic flux. The modeling algorithm is verified by comparison with other numerical solutions and agreement with those is excellent for COMMEMI 3D-2 and ridge models.
