Abstract
The interpretation of standard 2D-reflection profiling data collected in crystalline areas often suffers from the lack of direct calibration. Deeper crustal reflections differ significantly from those known from industrial sedimentary basin surveys. Although they are often very bright, reflections from crystalline rocks appear discontinuous and of chaotic or, in the lower crust, of laminated character.
