Abstract

Data gathering in geophysical field surveys is usually carried out on regular grids. The data point density does not vary throughout the field, not taking into account whether anomalies are present or not. Therefore the idea arose to develop a survey system to sample the data problem adapted and process the data in the field. We can now present a highly efficient geomagnetic survey system. It avoids seperate geodetic measurement by using the Global Positioning System (GPS) in combination with a magnetic system. The data is sent to the survey computer via radio links for on-line monitoring which offers the possibility of adaptive data sampling in the examination area. We developed fast on-line algorithms for triangulation and anomaly detection by using the original, non-gridded data points, and we use statistical approaches for the evaluation of field data.
