Abstract

During the past two years a unique and extensive regional dataset of gravity and magnetic data over the whole Norwegian Continental Shelf has been compiled. These data have been merged to form a North Sea Basin-wide potential field database comprising approximately 450,000 line kilometres of coherent network adjusted data. This availability of areally extensive, high density data for the first time led to a desire to integrale these data into a regional tectonic framework. These geophysical data (including earthquake focal mechanism solutions and borehole breakout information) have been combined with seismic interpretation, and regional offshore and onshore geology. So far, quantitative analysis has concentrated on the area south of 63 degrees North.
