Abstract

The mining company Bidjovagge Gruber a.s. was the most profitable company in northern Norway in 1991. There is, however, a shortage of ore for further mining. A large exploration campaign was organised by the company to find new reserves in the area. The Kautokeino area is heavily covered with glacial drift. Regional interpretation of geophysical and geological data using image processing and geographic information systems (Erdas® and Arc/Info®) was therefore carried out as a part of this project. Since the mineralization at Bidjovagge is assumed to be related to movements along shear zones, it is of great importance to outline the geology of the Proterozoic Kautokeino Greenstone Belt (KGB).
