Abstract

The onshore Camargue basin (SE France; fig. 1a) results from the Oligocene-Aquitanian rifting of the Gulf of Lion (Séranne et al., this volume). The basin is bounded to the NW by the major extensional, SE-dipping Nimes Fault. It contains more than 4000 metres of syn-rift sediments which unconformably overly Mesozoic carbonates.
