Abstract
Shell Research's initiative for the development of a Volume Interpretation Environment, will ultimately enable the seismic interpreter to segment the 3D seismic volume into sub-volumes (or bodies) with geological, geophysical or reservoir engineering significance. The system combines pre-interpretation processing using 3D image processing tools, 3D visualisation capabilities and 3D volume description techniques to provide the required functionality. An overview is given in the paper by Hoogenboom et. al. [11 and details of 3D image processing for 3D seismic interpretation are discussed in the paper by Dalley et. al. [2].
