Abstract

In order to correct for variations in the output from a marine seismic source, Source Signature Estimation on a shot-by-shot basis will become a standard procedure (Lunde et al, 1995). However, the objective must be to optimize the output from the source. To improve seismic data quality and extend the weather window for marine acquisition, a system has been developed to compensate for the mis-focusing of the source in rough sea states. Tilt measurements from inclinometers mounted on the source harnesses are used to compute the vertical shape of the source. Vertical offsets between the individual guns are then converted to the time domain and applied as firing corrections to the gun controller.
