Abstract

P048 GEOPHYSICAL INVESTIGATIONS FOR ARCHAEOLOGICAL STUDYING OF THE HISTORIC CENTRE OF KAZAN Summary 1 Geophysical surveys if conducted prior to archeological works substantially reduce excavation volumes and preserve the anthropogenic layer. This paper overviews the results of the high-precision gravimeter survey and transient electromagnetic sounding conducted over the dense urban areas with a high noise level. They permitted the location of the preserved remains of ancient buildings tracing the bottom of the anthropogenic layer in the territories of the Kremlin of Kazan and Bogoroditsky Nunnery. The efficiency of the geophysical surveys has been proven by the archeological excavations and borehole
