Abstract
E036 ACQUISITION AND APPLICATION OF MULTICOMPONENT VECTOR WAVEFIELDS: ARE THEY PRACTICAL? Abstract 1 In several ways multicomponent vector wavefields (MCVW) are becoming a reality and providing practical solutions for reservoir development. Over 20 years of investigation has led to the optimal shear-wave (S-wave) source the compressional wavefield (P-wave) and there are numerous multicomponent detector systems commercially available. This new technology is being used routinely to validate bright spots and image through gas leading to 10s bcf of gas and 100s mmboe in new reserves. However there is evidence that these applications could be achieved by P-wave data alone. Other applications
