Abstract

A simplified experimental method is utilized to measure the spatial scattering of some rock and mineral samples in the thermal infrared (TIR) band of 8-14μm. After determining the Lambertian surfaces, the method can be applied for accurate measurement of their emissivity. This study is of importance for thermal remote sensing, where emissivity data is used to calculate the true temperature of the observed objects and to recognize them.
