Abstract

E-14 P-WAVE SEISMIC VELOCITY ISSUES IN THE PRESENCE OF AZIMUTHAL ANISOTROPY Summary 1 In this paper we present examples of the influence of azimuthal anisotropy on real P-wave seismic data. Although multi-azimuth data are required to fully characterise this anisotropy its effects can be observed in 2D marine 3D multicomponent OBC and time-lapse surveys. Introduction When seismic data are acquired over azimuthally anisotropic sedimentary basins the seismic waves propagate and reflect differentially as a function of the source-receiver azimuth with respect to a predefined direction (e.g. true north).
