Abstract

F-16 ICE AGE GAS HYDRATES – QUATERNARY MORPHOLOGY AND MAGNETIC ANOMALIES Summary 1 Accumulation and melting of gas hydrates during ice ages appear to be common offshore processes. In areas with increased occurrence of shallow gas special features of the Quaternary morphology are interpreted to result from these processes and include anomalously shaped subglacial melt-water channels and large circular grooves. Increased magnetic anomalies are observed at many of these locations due to a contrast in magnetic attributes between infill and surrounding strata. Introduction and observations The study area is Quadrant 25 in the Norwegian Central North Sea and our focus
