Abstract

F-39 A GEOSTATISTICAL APPROACH TO DEALING WITH HIGH FREQUENCY ANOMALIES IN VELOCITY MODEL BUILDING Abstract We implement a geostatistical approach for identifying high frequency (structural and velocity) anomalies in the overburden for the purpose of properly accounting for these anomalies in time or depth imaging velocity model building. The method is independent of domain of application but assumes that later time or deeper depth surfaces exhibit significantly lower structural frequencies than those characterized by the anomalies. We present results from the application of this new approach to a North Sea data-set. Introduction 1 The effects of unconstrained anomalous velocities in
