Abstract

Attenuation of multiples in marine seismic data is typically achieved using a multiple prediction and adaptive subtraction process. An alternative method based on deconvolution of up- by down-going pressure data has been successfully applied to ocean-bottom data, where it achieves removal of all free-surface-related events (source- and receiver-side ghosts, as well as free-surface multiples). Here, we present a field data application of this method to towed-streamer data, acquired in an over/under configuration. To overcome the requirement of accurately recording direct arrivals, we use an estimation based on source near-field hydrophone recordings. The final results are compared to standard SRME technique showing similar performance, but within a single operation and without the requirement of adaptive subtraction.
