Abstract

In this article, numerical simulation of GPR results are presented in order to detect human bones and funerary urns inside of carbonate shell layers (sambaquis), as well as to locate structures of dunes and water table. The results showed that human bones and funerary urns can be detected, however, they presented the same reflection pattern, not being possible to differentiate them. The structures of dunes and the water table also are identified, but depend on the electrical conductivity of sambaquis layer, which is underlying dunes. The obtained results are significant and will serve of base for future field works. Moreover, it shows the importance of numerical modeling as an auxiliary tool in interpretation of data, decreasing the uncertainties in interpetation process.
