Abstract

Adaptive differential filtering and cubic B-spline constitute two techniques for the processing of potential field data in the space domain. The application of them to magnetic data from 3-D sources yields good results for the calculation of tensor components and upward continuation of magnetic fields. They also provide more accurate results than those obtained via processing in the frequency domain. Therefore, it is more advantageous to employ them rather than fast Fourier transform in certain situations.
