Abstract

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) has performed experiments with a near infred (NIR) profiler installed in a geophysical aircraft. The NIR data are to complement onboard gamma spectrometer and magnetometer data acquired during survey flight. Unmixing of the recorded NIR spectra by binary encoding that has been modified to the needs of the CGS NIR spectra enables recognition of rock types. To our knowledge, no previous reference has been available where certain rock types per se were actually identified from low flying geophysical survey aircraft.
