Abstract

In this work we integrated structural analysis of about 9000 km of multichannel 2D seismic data with an isopach map of the sedimentary cover to evaluate how gravity tectonics has operated in the Amazon Cone. The interplay between sedimentary loading and bathymetric slope seems to have been the main mechanisms responsible for the development of two quite different structural compartments mapped in the area: the larger and structurally complex Northwestern Compartment, and the shorter and structurally more incipient Southeastern Compartment.
