IOR-04 COMPARISON OF POLYMER AND WATERFLOOD RESIDUAL OIL SATURATIONS Abstract 1 Polymer flooding can increase recovery in viscous oil fields compared to waterflooding through a combination of improvements in microscopic sweep (lowering the effective residual oil saturation) and areal and vertical sweep (reducing the detrimental effect of heterogeneity and gravity slumping of injected water). Analysis of core flood data comparing water and polymer flooding for a UKCS field indicated that polymer flooding was recovering more incremental oil than would be predicted using the basic water/oil relative permeabilities.
