Abstract
Zagros Basin, extending from south to south west of Iran, is one of those large sedimentary
basins of the world that shows high seismicity rate (Figure 1). The purpose of this research is to
model and acquire the induced seismicity in the oil and gas reservoirs of this basin, resulted from
extraction or injection of fluids in the reservoirs.
A catalogue of small magnitude earthquakes in the region has been compiled based on the
data recorded in the period of 1990 to 2005. Small magnitude earthquakes which were recorded at
one, two or more stations were considered. All the data was processed, the moment magnitudes
were estimated and the foci of the earthquakes were allocated. One of our main interests was to
assess the focal depths. The data was divided to several groups according to the number of stations
that recorded the data or based on their level of uncertainty.
