Abstract
With the introduction of a new device for combined lateral and depth control of seismic streamers, multicomponent streamer steering is now possible for the first time in the seismic industry. The unique combination of dual-sensor streamers and a new inline steering system allows for further optimization of efficiency and safety of geophysical operations together with further improvements in seismic data quality. In addition to the benefits of multicomponent streamers over conventional streamers, a number of supplemental improvements are introduced by lateral control, related to increased production time, reduced HSE risks, and a reduction of acoustic noise. The combined effects of the above is a more predictable operation and higher value end deliverables. Here each of the two technologies are presented, along with how the integration of the two enhances data quality while reducing the acquisition footprint.
