Abstract
Wave equation migration velocity analysis is a nonlinear velocity inversion method in the image domain. The derivation of the formuals for WEMVA, especially the gradient calculation of the misfit function with respect to the velocity model,is important and complex in some sense. In this abstract, we will elaborate on the theory of migration velocity analysis using augmented Lagrange function based on the principle of adjoint state method. The flow chart for WEMVA is also presented with detail specifications. We concluded from the process that with the help of the augmented Lagrange function, the derivation would be well organized, straightforward and easily implemented.
