Abstract

Some results from the seismological and geodetic monitoring of a part of South-Eastern Bulgaria are presented. The paper describes the investigations of the local seismic activities occurred near Monastery uplifts and surroundings during the last 30 years – since 1981, when the National seismlogical network started operation. Historical events with maximum impacts to this area (with maximum felt intensity up to VI degree MSC) is also presented. The present seismic activity of the Monastery uplifts area shows an abrupt increasing of the amount of the seismic events for the last 2 years. Recent crustal motions in South-Eastern Bulgaria obtained by GPS data analysis reveal as a whall no significat residual velocities relative to Eurasia. Only one point located in the eastern part of the region of interest shows a realtevely higher velocity for the last two years.
