Abstract

P036 ESTIMATING COMPACTION AND VELOCITY CHANGES FROM TIME-LAPSE NEAR AND FAR OFFSET STACKS Abstract 1 For some hydrocarbon reservoirs severe compaction of the reservoir rocks are observed. This compaction is caused by the production and is often associated with changes also for the overburden. Time-lapse seismic data can be used to monitor this compaction process. Since the compaction causes both changes in layer thickness as well as changes in the P-wave velocities it is crucial to obtain methods to distinguish between the to effects. A simple method using travel time changes at near and far offsets is presented. Reliable estimation
