Abstract

F-02 THE CHALK RESERVOIRS – HOW AND WHY ARE THEY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER RESERVOIRS? Abstract 1 The North Sea chalk is considered to be a specific reservoir type that can be distinguished from other reservoirs being other carbonates or siliciclastics. Chalk reservoirs are found in very fine-grained carbonates with high porosity (30-50%) and low permeability (~ 1 mD). The chalk forms a well-layered sedimentary succession with relatively low primary contrasts in petrophysical properties. Later mechanical and diagenetic processes can enhance existing contrasts or create new that influence flow and fluid distribution in the reservoir. The very fine-grained nature in combination
