Abstract

Complex wavefield frequently observed on the near-surface prestack seismic gathers being combined with suboptimal application of seismic processing algorithms may lead to observation of prolonged coherent events on the resulting stacked sections, which can be easily interpreted as reflections, although have nothing to do with reflected waves. To avoid misinterpretation, it is crucially important to compare the resulting stack with pre-stack seismic gathers to make sure that each reflection on the stack has a corresponding hyperbola time-curve on the gather
