Abstract

D-31 ON THE UTILISATION OF SEISMIC TOMOGRAPHIC IMAGING IN PERMAFROST MONITORING Abstract 1 Climate induced thawing of permafrost bodies requires an improved understanding of the processes involved and the resulting impacts. The detection of such bodies is unfortunately difficult due to the harsh and remote environment. Developing tools for detecting and monitoring permafrost bodies is therefore an important task in permafrost research. A tomographic imaging technique was used to detect isolated permafrost bodies using refraction seismic data. In order to constrain the underdetermined part of the data kernel a regularization of vertical and horizontal models has been used. Despite of
