Abstract
This paper presents an improved rock physics model which contains information on effective stress. The relative error of simulated bulk modulus by the model mentioned above has been significantly reduced compared with the model which does not contain information on effective stress. By using the improved rock physics model we can accurately predict lithology and hydrocarbon according to the probability distribution function (PDFs) for each lithology, so the lithological classification data including mudstone,water-bearing sandstone and hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone is obtained. The actual drilling successfully demonstrated the reliability of the predictions by the model. So the knowledge on the lateral variation of the oil and gas reservoir properties has been further improved.
