Abstract

Most current migration approaches are based on the assumption of low contrasts, meaning transmission effects and internal multiples are neglected during the migration process. Recently, the method of full wavefield migration (FWM) was proposed. With this recursive migration process the up- and downgoing wavefields are updated at each depth level in order to keep track of all transmission effects and (internal) multiple scattering. In this way, (internal) multiples – instead of being considered as noise - contribute to the illumination of the deeper structures. So far, the FWM method, although derived in a multi-dimensional sense, was only illustrated with 1,5D examples. Therefore, in this paper we show the potential of FWM by deterministic demonstration of this methodology to a 2D subsurface model.
