Abstract

This paper uses the integrated application of P-wave seismic attributes to detect fractures in a fractured tight-sandstone reservoir based on the 3D full-azimuth seismic data. Subsurface fractures can be predicted by using both the pre-stack (such as P-wave azimuth gathers and AVO) and post-stack seismic attributes (coherence, curvature and ants tracking data). Based on the full-azimuth P-wave and well logging data, many techniques mentioned above are integrated, such as curvature, ants tracking, azimuthal P-wave prediction methods, to delineate a fractured reservoir in a Southwest China basin. The results indicate that both the pre-stack and post-stack seismic attributes can be used to detect the distribution of fractured subsurface reservoirs. Pre-stack azimuthal gathers can also be reliably used to detect the orientation and density of fractures by using azimuth velocity differences in HTI media based on the full azimuth P-wave seismic data. By integrating sedimentary information, well logging information with pre-stack and post-stack seismic fracture detection information, we can reliably predict fractures in subsurface reservoirs.
