Abstract

A 2D land seismic data acquisition method that combines measurements of the vertical component particle velocity and the horizontal rotation rate of the wavefield is presented. It is shown that the station spacing of such a survey can be increased to beyond that corresponding to the spatial Nyquist wavenumber. An algorithm is described that can separate once-aliased data from the vertical component wavefield data. The separated data can be used for wavefield interpolation. A field experiment shows that rotation rate sensors can directly measure at the free surface, the required horizontal gradient of the vertical component of the wavefield. A synthetic data set is used to demonstrate the algorithm for the separation and interpolation of regularly spaced aliased data.
