Abstract

H-06 ON THE USE OF SURFACE ELECTRIC POTENTIAL MEASUREMENTS FOR RESERVOIR MONITORING Abstract 1 Surface electric potential measurements can be very useful in characterising the evolution of fluid flow within a reservoir during hydrofracturing and/or production tests. As fluids flow in a porous media electrokinetic interactions generate electric potential anomalies. We show here how this feature can be exploited to gain insight into the dynamics of fluid flow within a reservoir and illustrate our demonstration with several examples from geothermal and hydrocarbon reservoirs taken from the literature and from our own work at the Hot Dry Rock site in Soultz-sous-Forêts.
