Abstract

P245 EFFECTS OF AN HTI OVERBURDEN ON P- WAVE AMPLITUDES Summary 1 The variation of amplitudes with azimuth in cracked media is a function of reflection at the target as well as transmission through the overburden. This study models the effects of wave propagation through a horizontal transverse isotropic (HTI) overburden on P-wave amplitudes. The geometric spreading transmission coefficients and attenuation due to fluid flow are investigated over a wide model space. The transmission coefficients produce a negligible azimuthal amplitude variation. The anisotropic effect of the geometric spreading is significant for a relatively narrow range of models and it increases
