Abstract

Conventional migration velocity analysis techniques has been based on analysis of offset or scattering-angle gathers using reflection. But when the analysis is carried out over complex geological regions, the use of these gathers may cause significant inaccuracies. In view of this, we can perform the velocity analysis in a non-conventional domain or using events which are least frequently used during the analysis. In this paper, we present two novel methods for velocity analysis using diffraction. One is carried through in the dip-angle domain, another is conducted in the migrated section. Moreover, we study the precision of the two methods for velocity analysis. The attractive possibility to perform the analysis is demonstrated on the Sigsbee2a velocity model.
