Abstract

This study demonstrates the possibility of using seismic attributes in texture detection and signal conditioning of seal units. Single attributes are insufficient to generate insights to seal quality. The proposed multiple attribute approach significantly increases seal characterization by taking into account several important factors which increase leakage risk, and also using conditioning attributes as a platform for the calculation of other attributes. We believe that this is the first attempt at quantitative 3D seal quality characterization and its application on modern seismic surveys can save days of processing/mapping time and can reduce exploration risk by basing decisions on seal texture and their proven link to leakage risk factors. Our approach has been applied to regional seals in a case study from West Africa.
