Abstract

We derive the velocity dispersion and effective reflection coefficient from a periodical weak-contrast horizontally layered medium. The low-frequency approximation is used to define a dynamic effective medium. The results are compared with those obtained earlier for a gradient medium. We show that the low-frequency weak-contrast approximation is valid for models with realistic contrasts.
