Abstract

Along the margin of northern South America there are basins that are complex and varied. Even though they are related to the same margin evolution, different infill history results in a particular subsidence pattern which is inter-related with the entire margin evolution. To better understand the effect of sedimentary thickness and tectonic loads on uplift and susidence and the basin evolution, 3D flexural modeling has been performed at different key time steps. The implementation method considers a thin plate with constant or variable thickness on an elastic foundation. The result of this modeling are maps which shows areas of uplift and subsidence in form of contours. These maps are compared with 2D models and other previous models in the region in order to evaluate the far field effect.
