Abstract

2D elastic finite difference modeling is performed to obtain a shot record of a near-surface scatterer (cavity). The geometry and the physical parameters obtained from a real seismic data are used in the modeling. For simplicity and hence to have a better understanding, first a cavity embedded to a half space and then to a one-layered medium is considered. The effect of a cavity on the calculated snapshots of wavefield and on seismograms are investigated and compared with the real data.
