Abstract

Summary

This case study from the Malay Basin demonstrates how the incorporation of elastic logs in the interpretation and correlation of sand bodies can help to discriminate different depositional environments within one reservoir unit. This can have a significant impact on understanding the architecture of a fluvial/ tidal estuarine reservoir of considerable complexity, which is vital for building appropriate static and dynamic reservoir models. Without such understanding, well placement becomes a gamble, which can result in unsuccessful wells and lower recovery.
