Abstract
The third CO2 storage Atlas covering the Barents Sea will include a study with CO2 as a primary agent for increased oil recovery. CO2 is a very effective agent as pointed out in previous studies. The objective in this study is to investigate the use of CO2 for increased oil recovery in a discovery in the Barents Sea with a heterogeneous channeled reservoir (Figure 1a). A segment model of the reservoir was selected to show the principles of injection behavior and oil recovery. The different scenarios of injection; water, gas and WAG are simulated and compared with the use of CO2. WAG is the promissing for increased oil recovery in this model, and CO2 gas is a more effective agent compared to HC gas.
