Abstract

Summary

The goal of this paper is to present a methodology to help engineers in the process of merging layers of the geological model. proposed to determine geological grid layers to be merged by taking into account the flow distribution. We propose to improve this method with the definition of a new criterion, based on the permeabilities, to better characterize the heterogeneity between two layers. The vertical distribution of this criterion helps to identify the layers to combine. A tool has been developed and tested to create the reservoir model including the merging and upscaling steps. Using this tool, it is now possible to quickly identify the layers of the geological grid to associate and to create the reservoir grid while taking into account heterogeneities between layers.
